3 Dental Sleep Apnea Treatments Do you think you have sleep apnea and are looking for a dental sleep apnea treatment to solve this potential problem? The more you understand about this sleeping disorder, the better you can address it and find the right solution if you are indeed diagnosed. If you often feel tired after thinking that you got a good night of sleep, then it is likely that something is interrupting your sleep. Since there are a few symptoms that come with sleep apnea, understanding these symptoms can allow you to address your current challenge.

Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a fairly common and potentially very serious sleeping disorder. When someone is diagnosed with sleep apnea, it means that when they are sleeping during the night, their breathing is interrupted. This means they will stop breathing from anywhere from a few seconds up to a minute or so. This sleeping disorder can affect any age, and men are more likely to receive a diagnosis. Common risk factors include being overweight, being over the age of 40, having large tonsils, a large tongue, a small jaw, a family history of sleep apnea and sinus issues. If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to the person experiencing additional health issues, e.g., high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, depression, diabetes etc.

Three common treatments

The following is a list of common treatments used when someone is diagnosed with sleep apnea. Common treatment #1 — sleeping in a different position. Sleeping on one’s back is more likely to make them snore. Common treatment #2 — wearing oral appliances. A professional dentist can offer the patient certain oral appliances that can support their jaw in a certain way to prevent sleep apnea from occurring. Common treatment #3 — CPAP. A continuous positive pressure machine allows those diagnosed with sleep apnea to breathe easier, as it helps to keep the airway from being closed when sleeping.
